Author Guidelines

1. Before You Submit

JAERE follows a double-blind peer review process. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript and all accompanying materials are fully anonymized prior to submission. Authors must remove names, institutional affiliations, acknowledgments, and any other information that could directly or indirectly reveal their identity from the manuscript and associated files.

Each submission must include the following materials:

  • Separate title page
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Anonymized manuscript
  • Required statements

2. Title Page

A separate title page must be submitted as an independent file. Any acknowledgments, disclosures, and funding information must also be included on this page. Authors may cite their own work within the manuscript, provided that identifying information is not disclosed, in accordance with double-blind review requirements.

The title page must include the following elements:

  • Article Title: The title should be concise, informative, and clearly reflect the content of the manuscript. Avoid abbreviations unless they are widely recognized and commonly understood.
  • Author Names: Provide the full given name(s) and family name(s) of each author. The order of authors must correspond exactly to the order entered in the submission system.
  • Affiliations: Provide the full institutional affiliation for each author, indicating where the work was conducted. Include the complete postal address, country, and email address for each author. Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID iD, if available.
  • Corresponding Author: Clearly designate the corresponding author, who will be responsible for communication throughout the peer review, publication, and post-publication processes.
  • Acknowledgments, Funding, and Disclosures: Include acknowledgments, funding information, competing interests disclosures, and other relevant author information on the title page only.
  • Biographical Note: Authors are required to provide a brief biographical note for each author. Biographical statements should be concise, typically not exceeding 200 words per author.

3. Abstract and Keywords

Abstract

The abstract should be concise, factual, and not exceed 250 words. It should summarize the purpose of the study, principal results, major conclusions, and implications. The abstract must be self-contained and understandable independently of the manuscript.

Keywords

Provide 4–6 keywords that reflect the topic, focus, and methods of the manuscript. Abbreviations should be used only if they are widely recognized and established within the field.

4. Manuscript Preparation

Submission of a manuscript confirms that the work has not been previously published, is not under consideration elsewhere, that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the manuscript, and that all required institutional approvals have been obtained.

Manuscripts must be submitted as one complete Microsoft Word file and prepared according to the most current APA style guidelines.

  • Submit as a complete Microsoft Word file (.docx)
  • Use 12-point Times New Roman font
  • Double-space the manuscript
  • Follow current APA style guidelines
  • Include page numbers
  • Length: 6,000–8,000 words, excluding references
  • Embed all figures and tables within the manuscript

Failure to submit all required submission elements may result in the manuscript not being considered for peer review.

5. Figures and Tables

Figures

Figures must be high quality and submitted at the appropriate resolution:

  • Line art: 1200 dpi
  • Grayscale: 600 dpi
  • Color: 300 dpi
  • Accepted formats: JPEG, TIFF, Microsoft Word DOC or DOCX

Color figures will be reproduced in color in the article at no additional cost to the authors.

Tables

Tables should present original information and should not duplicate content already described in the text. Each table must be clear, self-explanatory, and interpretable without requiring reference to the main text. Tables must be editable.

6. Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or other materials that have been published elsewhere are responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright owner(s) for both print and online formats. Evidence that permission has been granted must be included at the time of submission. Any material submitted without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

7. Required Statements

Authors are required to include the following statements at the end of the manuscript before the References section, as applicable.

Ethics Approval / Human Subjects Statement

For studies involving human participants, their data, or biological materials, authors must include a statement confirming that the research was reviewed and approved, or granted exemption, by the appropriate institutional and/or national research ethics committee.

The statement must include the name of the ethics committee and affirm that the study was conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards. If the study was granted an exemption from ethics review, the manuscript must clearly state this and provide the justification for the exemption.

Funding Statement

Authors must provide complete and accurate details of all funding sources and grant-awarding bodies that supported the research.

Example: Funded research
This work was supported by the National Science Foundation [grant numbers xxxx, yyyy].

Example: No specific funding
This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

Data Availability Statement

The journal is committed to promoting transparency, openness, and reproducibility in scholarly research. Authors are encouraged to share and make publicly available the data, materials, and analytical procedures that support the findings and conclusions of their manuscripts, where appropriate and feasible.

Data sharing must be conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards, institutional policies, and relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Authors are responsible for ensuring that data sharing does not compromise human subjects protections, confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property rights, or other ethical, legal, or security considerations.

Authors must include a Data Availability Statement indicating whether the data supporting the findings of the study are available and, if so, where and how they can be accessed.

Examples:

  • Data available in a repository: The data supporting the findings of this study are publicly available in [repository name] at [DOI or URL].
  • Data available upon reasonable request: The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request, subject to ethical and privacy considerations.
  • Data not publicly available: The data supporting the findings of this study are not publicly available due to privacy, ethical, or legal restrictions, but may be made available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.
  • No data generated or analyzed: No datasets were generated or analyzed during the current study.

Competing Interests Disclosure

Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial interests that could be perceived to influence the interpretation or application of the research findings. This includes relationships, affiliations, or activities that may represent a potential conflict of interest.

If no competing interests exist, authors must include the following statement:
The authors declare that they have no competing interests.

If generative AI tools were used during manuscript preparation, authors must include a disclosure statement. This disclosure will be published with the article. Generative AI tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors under any circumstances.

Authors retain full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the manuscript, including any content generated or assisted by AI tools.

Example:
