Aims and Scope

The Journal of Applied Educational Research and Evaluation (JAERE) seeks to advance educational knowledge and practice through the publication of high-quality scholarship that bridges research, practice, and policy across educational contexts.

JAERE promotes interdisciplinary inquiry that integrates research, theory, and practice to improve teaching, learning, leadership, and student development across diverse learning environments, populations, and stages of life.

JAERE welcomes scholarship across educational fields, including:

Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum

Research related to curriculum development, pedagogy, assessment, learning processes, and discipline-specific education, including but not limited to STEM education, computational thinking, and physical education and kinesiology.

Technology and Learning Design in Education

Research focused on instructional technology, artificial intelligence in education, digital learning environments, learning design, and innovative approaches that enhance teaching, learning, and assessment across educational settings.

Educator Preparation, Leadership, and Educational Policy

Research related to teacher preparation, professional development, educational and sport leadership, higher education, educational policy, the preparation and ongoing development of educators, and the improvement of educational institutions and systems.

Human Development and Educational Psychology

Research related to educational psychology, counseling, student development, special education, inclusive practices, and partnerships that support equitable and holistic learner development.

Types of Manuscripts Accepted

JAERE welcomes quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods studies, program evaluation research, design-based research, methodological articles, theoretical and conceptual articles, systematic literature reviews, and meta-analyses.

Expectations for Submissions

Manuscripts should demonstrate scholarly rigor, methodological soundness, and meaningful contributions to educational research, policy, or practice.

Evidence synthesis studies should employ transparent and reproducible procedures, including clearly defined search strategies, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and methods of analysis. Authors are encouraged to follow established reporting standards such as PRISMA when appropriate.

JAERE does not publish manuscripts that fall outside its scope or do not meet expectations for scholarly rigor and contribution. Submissions that are primarily descriptive, lack theoretical or methodological grounding, or do not contribute to educational research, theory, policy, or practice will not be considered. Specifically, the journal does not publish editorials, opinion pieces, program reports, assessment reports, or literature reviews that are purely descriptive and do not employ systematic, integrative, critical, or methodological approaches.
