Abstract

I performed a vocal recital for my senior year at NIU as part of the final requirements for the completion of the Music Education degree. This document consists of in-depth biographies on the composers; Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel, Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy, and Manuel De Falla. Additionally, I have provided research on each piece performed in the program that discusses the history, harmonic structure, and any cultural significance that ensued from the piece. I have also provided English translations to pieces sung in foreign languages. This recital is made possible by daily practice towards my musical skills and diligent focus on my vocal training during the entirety of my studies in NIU. As I developed my technique and started singing repertoire that best suits my voice, I could construct a program that features a wide range of musical styles that span from the Baroque period to the present day. Along with individual practice, I meet with my voice professor, Dr. Orna Arania, once a week. As well as rehearsing with my accompanist, Heewon Cha. The performance will take place on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, at 6pm in the NIU Recital Hall.
