Abstract

Purpose. The Area in the immediate vicinity of the Lorado Taft Field Campus is rich in geologic lore. The major difficulty in using this natural laboratory of geology has been the fact that the available information regarding the region is scattered throughout professional bulletins or is in an unpublished form. The purpose of this paper is to attempt to meet the need of a single source volume covering all the aspects of the general geology of the Lorado Taft Field Campus area. This paper is designed to serve as a reference for resource persons on the field campus staff and for college senior education majors working with elementary school children at the branch campus. Location and Environment The Oregon region has been described by Dr. H. B. Willman as one of the, if not the, richest areas in the state on the basis of geologic interest. It has been intensively studied for almost thirty-five years, by at least six of the leading geologists in Illinois. It Is an area of outstanding scenic beauty and of complex geology.
