Illinois--Bibliography
Abstract
In 1948 a bibliography of books, entitled "Illinois - A Bibliography," dealing with people, places, and events within the state of Illinois appeared in Illinois Libraries, a periodical of the Illinois State Library. In two subsequent Issues of Illinois Libraries revisions of the bibliography were published, the last one covering materials up to 1960. The purpose of this paper is to revise this bibliography with a listing of English language books, fiction and non-fiction, relating to the state of Illinois published from 1960 to 1966. Books about people of national significance in Illinois are included in so far as they deal specifically with events occurring within the state boundaries. The following sources were examined for possible titles: Books in Print. U.S.A.; Cumulative Book Index. Library Of Congress Catalog - Books: Subjects, standard Catalog for High School Libraries, Junior High School Library Catalog, Children's Catalog. Fiction Catalog, Standard Catalog for Public Libraries. Textbooks in Print, Historical Fiction, Historical Non-Fiction, Illinois History, Illinois Libraries, Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society, and Chicago History. The books were examined, briefly annotated, and a grade level suggested. The 260 single entries in the bibliography are arranged into broad subject areas. Biographies are arranged alphabetically according to the biographee. Fiction is arranged alphabetically by author. Books written by prominent people of Illinois are included under the subject heading Literary Contributions.
