Abstract

The Diel-Alder reactions of ζ-pyrone and 1,3-cyciohexadiene with vinyltrichlorosilane, ethnyltrichlorosilane, 1-propynyltrichlorosilane and 1-propynyltrimethylsilane were examined. Expected cycloaddition products were obtained from only the trichlorosilyl-containing dienophiles. The preparation of selected δ- and ϵ-halo substituted trimethylsilanes and their possible elimination were explored. ο-(Chloromethyl)-and ο-(methoxymethyl)- benzyltrimethylsilane did not lead to cyclic products upon elimination. Precursors to 1-chloromethyl-8-trimethylsilyl- methylnaphthalene were prepared.
