Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine if the SRA Reading Laboratory prepared by Don H. Parker, reading consultant in the Southern Westchester County Schools in New York, is of value as reading material for ninth grade children possessing learning deficiencies. An evaluation of the SRA Reading Laboratory was made through an analysis of it, through the use of it in a ninth grade class of children possessing learning deficiencies, and through an examination of it in light ©f certain principles governing the selection of reading materials and methods. This report explains the need for particular reading materials and describes those of the SRA Reading laboratory. It presents the recorded observations of a group of children using the laboratory and then gives an overall evaluation of the materials.
