Abstract
The focus of this case study was to understand the experience of completers of teacher residency programs. Four themes emerged from the research: a) teacher residency programs as communities of practice, b) importance of mentor matches, c) program structure and gradual release, and d) the challenges of the profession. Recommendations that emerged from this study include the importance of identifying mentor teachers, creation of programs that include cohort- based learning, and inclusion of administrative support for teacher candidates.
