Abstract
The goal of my research project was to provide quantitative data supporting the hypothesis that choir participation may support functional communication in individuals with acquired neurogenic communication disorders. Through the Student Engagement Fund, I was able to develop a procedure for incorporating language sample collections into weekly choir rehearsals, collect appropriate and adequate language samples, and find a method to analyze the collected data. This research project is part of a larger, ongoing line of research investigating the role of music and the arts in recovery from brain injury and stroke in terms of increased functional communication, confidence, and perceived quality of life.
