Abstract
Hope's Haven is a story about a young girl who is subjected to the challenges of homelessness when her mother loses her job. It is based on the true events of my own childhood. The curriculum included is geared toward 2nd grade. It is created to increase awareness of and tolerance for those in adverse conditions. The research paper documents the process by which I wrote the book as well as giving information about manuscript preparation and submission for publication. A mock-up ofthe book is included as an example of how the post-publication product might look. It is illustrated with sketches taken from my photographs of the actual locations of the events in the story. This project was created as an attempt to promote diversity in the mainstream curriculum.
