Abstract
Recent changes in demographics and family structure have significantly affected society's manner of providing caregiving to dependent members. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the demographic and structural changes, including the needs of the different age groups, to see how they are affecting the family's ability to care for its members. Public policies are also examined to determine and predict their affect on the changing family. Finally, some different policies or revisions of policy are proposed. The author's conclusion was to adopt changes in Social Security, however, the reader is invited to make his own conclusions on the most effective action. The work is significant because it takes into account all of the complexity involved so that the reader can make a knowledgeable decision.
