Abstract

The study uses data analysis to assess how changes in the rules and types of turf affect injuries among NFL football players. The project aims to have a better understanding of player safety, including patterns of injuries for certain positions. Thus, more strides can be made towards making the sport safer. Coding scripts from the Python language were created to extract injury data from websites and then used to examine the connections between player positions, season, field and injury type. Initial data point to increases in lower body injuries caused by synthetic fields and rule changes.
