Abstract
The problem: The purpose of this study was to survey the present and anticipated needs for technicians in selected industries and businesses in the Freeport, Illinois area and to solicit opinion of representatives of industries and businesses as to the degree to which proposed programs of Freeport Community College will meet the needs of these firms. The Procedure: The purpose of this study was accomplished by an investigation of literature, the development of proposed curricula in eight areas of Applied Technology, the development and administration of a survey questionnaire and the participation in interviews with representatives of selected businesses and industries in the Freeport, Illinois area. Conclusions and Recommendations: There is a present aid increasing need for trained technicians in some businesses and industries in the Freeport, Illinois area. Graduates of the programs in Applied Technology presented in this study would be acceptable as employees on the technician level in the businesses aid industries represented in this study. Curricula in the following areas of Applied Technology should be established at Freeport Community College: (1) Industrial Electronic Technology, (2) Mechanical Design Technology, and (3) Industrial Electrical Technology. Curricula in the following areas should be considered for future establishment at Freeport Community College: (1) Mechanical Production Technology and (2) Chemical Technology.
