Abstract

It was the purpose of this paper to examine tables of the powers of last digits and the patterns that developed therein so that a method for determining the generating power and the period of the powers of last digits might be obtained. To obtain data for the problem, tables were constructed by the writer and the patterns then observed. Determining the nature and cause of the patterns which developed required a study of congruences mod m. ... The generating power for all a in a given base m was found to be the maximum exponent obtained in the prime factorization of m.
