Choruses; Secular (Mixed voices; 4 parts) with instrumental ensemble--Scores

Abstract

This composition is a stylistic amalgam of Western contemporary instrumental techniques, Chinese musical ideas, and extended vocal techniques. The overall idiom can be described as free atonality with quotations transcribed from traditional Chinese music. The instrumentalists are, at times, required to freely interpret (or improvise) certain graphically represented gestures. Texts used for the mixed chorus are taken from traditional Chinese percussion sounds.
