Machine-tools--Numerical control
Abstract
This paper is a study of Manufacturing Engineering Management structures with primary emphasis on numerical control Manufacturing facilities support. It's purpose was to compare techniques used by existing industrial firms in managing Manufacturing Engineering support activities. Management texts and recent periodicals were reviewed for pertinent information. A survey of industrial enterprises using numerical control machine tools was made both by personal interview and questionnaire. Collected data was graphically presented by block diagram, to represent the various types of staff structures surveyed. This method assisted in indicating patterns and similarities between firms. It was observed that within the limits of this study there appeared to be two diametrically opposed points of view. This difference appeared to be in the suggested way numerical control activities should function and the way they are functioning in practice. There did not appear to be one best way of structuring manufacturing engineering support activities. Until numerical control manufacturing equipment becomes more widely used, organizations will find it necessary to function with Numerical Control forging their support activities to fit their individual needs and requirements.
