Abstract
This thesis presents the first photon-stimulated desorption studies of Si(lll) and Si(100) surface with the coverage of potassium. The results can be explained by the combination of the Knotek-Feibelman(KF) model, e.g. interatomic Auger decay, and the Menzel-Gomer-Redhead model. Supplemental investigations on Na/Si were also conducted. The results show agreement with previous work. Also the oxidation processes of the K/Si and Na/Si systems are studied in this thesis. The promotional effect on oxidation of Si with alkali metal potassium and sodium is explained in the framework of the theory of Soukiassian et al.
