Abstract
The Library Is Not Just For Reading Anymore is a color video tape project produced for the DeKalb Public Library, as an information/documentary tape. The Library Is Not Just For Reading Anymore attempted to document the historical background and significance of the library, and to make the public aware of the various services that the library offers aside from the over 90,000 books available to the residents of DeKalb. As a thesis video tape project, the purpose of The Library Is Not Just For Reading Anymore was to develop an increased knowledge and understanding of video tape production and to learn the basic techniques of doing documentaries in a professional setting. As a thesis, the purpose of this paper is to illustrate the various intellectual, artistic and technical pursuits intrinsic in the production through a series of documents which include: A. The Planning Stage—a description of the project's background, the content outline which mentions objectives and audience analysis, and the media selection. B. The Design—the treatment, the first script, the revised script, budget, and a summary. C. The Production—includes description of each of the following: characters per scene, the prop list, the actual taping days, location and set, castings, narration, lights, music, editing, credits, and a summary. D. Evaluation—advisory evaluation, client evaluation, peer evaluation, self evaluation, cast evaluation, results. E. Conclusion F. Appendices G. Bibliography
