Abstract
This paper contains an analysis and discussion of the aria "Elektra recognizes Orest", from the opera Elektra by Richard Strauss. The analysis contains a discussion of the harmonic structure, Strauss' use of consonance and dissonance, chromaticism, the melodic characteristics of the voice line and of the accompaniment, the motival structure of the aria, and the characteristics of the rhythm and phrasing of this aria.
