Abstract
INTRODUCTION TO THE PROBLEM I. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The purpose of this study is to develop a suitable individual performance appraisal procedure for the management personnel in a certain operating division of a utility company. II. SUB-PROBLEMS The sub-problems of this study are: 1. What is the history of appraisal practices in the subject division? 2. What is the history of appraisal practices in the utility company? 3. What are the views of the top management of the utility company on the development of such a procedure? 4. What types of appraisal procedures are available which could be utilized in this operating division? III. DELIMITATIONS This study is limited to the operating division serving the central area of the city of Chicago because the scope of authority of the appraisers is so limited. This study is limited to the appraisal of management personnel within this operating division because a procedure for bargaining unit personnel has already been established and is in operation. This study is limited to the views and suggestions of the top management of the company and the operating division and will not attempt to solicit the opinions of the lower management group.
