Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of aifluorobis-(1,2-propylenediamine)chromium(III)tetrafluoro(1,2-propylene- diamine)chromate(III) and difluorotriethylenetetramine- chromium(III)fluoride are described. The complex ions, cis-difluorobis(1,2-propylenediamine)chromium(III) and tetrafluoro(1,2-propylenediamine)chromate(III), are isolated from the double salt as the iodide and sodium salts respectively. The complex difluorobis(1,2-propylenediamine)-chromium(III)iodide is assumed to have a cis configuration on the basis of its color, ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrum, behavior on an ion exchange column, and the analogous ethylenediamine complex. Using levo-propylene-diamine , cis-difluorobis(lrl,2-propylenediamine)chromium(III)-iodide was prepared which is assigned the form Dll. Elemental analysis, ion-exchange experiments, and spectral data support the existence of the tetrafluoro(1,2-propylene-diamine) chromate (III) anion.
