The pathways of glucose catabolism in Actlno- planes phlllpplnensls ATCC 11242 have been studied by the radiorespirometric technique. Earlier enzyme studies conducted by another author suggested the presence of several enzymes of the Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas pathway and one enzyme of the hexosemonophosphate pathway. When combined with enzyme studies the radiorespirometric pattern of D-glucose catabolism suggest the presence of both the Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas pathway and the hexosemonophosphate pathway. Lack of complete radiorespirometric information prevents the accurate calculation of the degree of pathway participation. However, based on earlier equations a crude measure of relative participation is possible. It indicates 19% of D-glucose is catabolised by the H.M.P. pathway, while 81% is catabolised via the E.M.P. pathway. The presence of secondary pathways, i.e. Krebs cycle, was not clearly established.
