Abstract

By examining the reaction of 2-phenylsulfinylbuta-2,3-diene-1-yl acetate and 2-phenylsulfinylbut-1-en-3-yne with a series of amines, it was demonstrated that the enyne is not an intermediate in the reaction of the allenyl acetate with unhindered secondary amines. The preparation of a new butadiene, 2-acetoxy-3-phenylsulfinyl-1,3-butadiene from 2-phenylsulfinylbut-1-en-3-yne is described. The enyne reacts thermally with cyclopentadiene to give an E/Z mixture of 2-(Bicyclo-[2,2,l]-hept-6-en-2-ylidene)-2-phenylthio-ethanal in the absence of hindered amines and the norbornene, E,Z-2-(Bicyclo-[2,2,1]-hept-6-en-2-ylidene)-ethanal, in the presence of such amines.
