Abstract

Alloantisera against erythrocyte alloantigens of the chicken were evaluated for reactivity to leukocyte antigens of the same species. Leukocytes and erythrocytes were tested by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) for reactivity with previously produced alloantisera against antigens of the A, C, and K systems. Separate suspensions of leukocytes and erythrocytes from individual chickens of appropriate genotypes were treated with Al, A4, C4, and K2 alloantisera followed by goat anti-chicken IgG Fc conjugated with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). Observation of slide mounts of such treated cells under the fluorescent microscope revealed that C4 and K2 antigens were present on leukocytes. The results using the Al and A4 antisera were inconclusive.
