Abstract
Progesterone concentrations were determined in ovarian and uterine tissues of the normal cycling, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) injected, and pregnant rats, using a spectrophotometric technique. Weight comparisons of the ovaries and uteri among these same three groups of animals were also obtained. The ovaries and uteri of the pregnant rats contained more progesterone than those of the normal cycling rats. The ovarian concentration levels of the human chorionic gonadotropin injected rats were higher than those of the pregnant rats, whereas the uterine concentration levels were similar for the two groups. The weight comparisons demonstrated that the ovaries and uteri of the human chorionic gonadotropin injected rats were heavier than those of either the pregnant or the normal cycling rats.
