Document imaging systems

Abstract

Since document images are an integral part of multimedia systems, this thesis attempts to highlight the importance of having generic image processing and document processing functionality in a single toolkit. This thesis emphasizes the advantages of doing image processing in a networked windows environment over an isolated personal computers environment. The toolkit is designed over the universal X window system for Unix-based workstations. The toolkit will also serve as an introductory tool to image processing for undergraduates at Northern Illinois university. This thesis serves as a starting point for an integrated multimedia system with image processing as the focal point. In the course of development of this project, radical changes have occured in the multimedia industry, reinforcing the strength of this project.
