Abstract

The magnetic susceptibility of the alloys RAuGa (R = Rare Earths, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Lu, Y), were measured for the temperature range of 2.5°K to 300°K with magnetic fields up to 26 kOe. In the high temperature range the samples showed Curie-Weiss behavior, that is, some linear relation between susceptibility and the temperature. Effective paramagnetic moments per rare earth ion were measured and showed good agreement with the theoretical moments for free rare earth ions. Many of the samples showed complex magnetic behavior below some ordering temperature. This complex behavior is examined with respect to exchange interactions and other theoretical expectations.
