Abstract
An X-band integrated balanced mixer using the microstrip transmission-line medium is developed in this research. The characteristics of the Schottky barrier diode, the 3-dB branch-line hybrid, the mixer performance and design are described. The fabrication process and properties of the microstrip are also described in some detail. Mixer conversion loss, LO leakage and RF-to-LO isolation are measured and calculated using available computer programs. The mixer is designed to work at the operating frequency of 10.0 GHz and this is achieved by appropriate stub matching at the input ports of each mixer diode.
