Abstract

The electron capture decay of ¹⁸⁴Re to ¹⁸⁴W has been examined using a 20 cm³ Ge(Li) detector. Energies and intensities of gamma-ray transitions within the excited ¹⁸⁴W nucleus have been determined. A coincidence system utilizing a 20 cm³ Ge(Li) detector and a 3 X 3 inch NaI (Tl) detector was used to examine gamma rays in coincidence with five energy gates. The fast-slow coincidence system utilized time-to-pulse-height conversion with a resolving time of 30 nsec. A new gamma ray of 1430.5±0.3 keV has been observed. A level scheme is proposed consisting of levels at 111.24, 364.08, 748.1, 903.3, 1006.0, 1121.5, 1129.1, 1133.8, 1221.7, 1285.1, 1314.4, 1386.5, 1430.5, and 1501.1 keV. Of these, the 1314.4 and 1430.5 keV levels are new to the ¹⁸⁴W level scheme.
