Abstract

In this thesis, I analyze the thematic of violence in the writings of Marguerite Yourcenar. I chose to use the method of analysis pioneerred by Rene Girard in his La Violence et le sacre to examine the occurrence of violence in Marguerite Yourcenar's work. "Le Premier Soir," "Le sourire de Marko, " "Le lait de la mort, " and Memoires d'Hadrien are the works which allowed me to show the evolution of this violence.
