Abstract

The original inception of this study was prompted by discussions in the local press of the need for a comprehensive plan for the Village of Downers Grove. The writer originally planned to devote this study to such a comprehensive plan. The folly of such an over-ambitious undertaking became readily apparent, and limitations had to be placed in order to bring the study within the time limits available. All comprehensive plans are made upon the basis of investigations within the designated area, and the key investigation for all future planning is the land use survey. Thus, the purpose of this study is to gather and interpret the basic information relative to the land use of Downers Grove and its environs, including the buildings or other use to which the land is presently being put. Areas outside the present limits of the Village of Downers Grove have been included in this study because the village has been expanding by annexation of these outlying areas. Availability of Information on these outlying areas may be of help in discussions of future annexations.
