Abstract
Problem The purpose of this study was to locate and determine the further education and present employment of the graduates of Elgin Community College in the years 1951-1962. Procedure The procedure used via as follows: 1. The college records were used to list all graduates of Elgin Community Collage and their addresses if known. 2. After a survey of the literature for like studies, a questionnaire was prepared. 3. Telephone and a mailing were used to obtain the needed data. Findings and Conclusions 1. Responses were obtained from two hundred seventy-four, or 63 per cent, of the four hundred thirty-three graduates. 2. Two hundred ten, or 79 per cent, of those responding had earned at least one year's credit beyond Elgin Community College. 3. One hundred seventy-seven, or 65 per cent, have obtained their bachelor's degree. 4. Twenty-six, or 9 per cent, have earned a master's degree including three with doctorates. 5. About one-half (I4.7 per cent} of the graduates obtained their degrees from either the University of Illinois or Northern Illinois University. 6. Four times as many graduates have earned degrees in Illinois as in out of state schools. 7. The business office (20 per cent), teaching (20 per cent), homemaking (15 per cent) and engineering (10 per cent) are the major areas of employment of 65 per cent of those reporting their occupations. 8. It can be concluded that the graduates of Elgin Community College were strongly motivated to continue their education.
