Abstract

The purpose of this researeh has been the investigation of experimntal procedures and apparatus for the determination of Planck's quantum of action. Primary attention wee centered on the photoelectric experiments of the past and the concurrent theoretical developments which furnish a guide for today's experimentation on the emission of electrons by light. Secondary attention was directed to the possibility of developing a procedure, using commercial phototubes, which would yield good accuracy (less than 5% error) and still be suitable, regarding time for performance and difficulty, for an undergraduate atomic physics laboratory course.
