Abstract
This thesis is a general analysis of George Crumb's orchestral conposition Echoes of Time and the River; Four Processionals for Orchestra. The analytical stance is similar to that of the analysis of traditional music: the parameter of form provides a framework in which specific analyses of the parameters of rhythm, texture,pitch selection, and so forth may be given. This thesis is by no means an exhaustive analysis, but is rather intended to provide a suitable introduction to the intricacies of the compositions of George Crumb, and to this work in particular.
