Abstract

It is the purpose of this paper to examine the work of the P.T.A. at various levels, and to evaluate this work in terms of the stated "Objects and Policies" by which the P.T.A, is guided. The legislative and scholarship programs of the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers are discussed as examples of P.T.A. activity on a state-wide level; other sections of this paper describe the P.T.A. at the council and local unit levels as they exist in the Elgin, Illinois school district. The operation and activities of the P.T.A. at these various levels are compared with the Objects, Policies and suggested activities in an attempt to determine the extent to which the P.T.A. accomplishes what it intends to accomplish.
