Abstract

This thesis investigates the use of Digital Signal Processor- based teleconferencing in order to achieve a full-duplex communication system. The focal point of this thesis is the use of a proposed pseudo-Quadrature Mirror Filter subband based adaptive acoustic canceller functioning in conjunction with a line echo canceller. A performance evaluation of eight equal bandwidth subband acoustic adaptive filters comprising sixty four taps per subband is tested in simulation using high level language (C and Matlab) and validated in real-time using a floating point Digital Signal Processor, the TMS320C30. Aspects relevant to the integrated teleconferencing environment such as line echo cancellation and conventional acoustic echo cancellation, gain-control techniques have been included so as to justify the proposed method of juxtaposition of the line and acoustic echo cancellers in real time. The results included in this thesis support the application of the proposed algorithm for an integrated teleconferencing environment.
