Abstract
An analytical model based on Green’s function method is developed to analyze the heating rates, temperature distribution, and heat effected zone in a material irradiated by a high energy laser. The Green’s function results are compared with that produced by a commercial finite element code. A parametric study shows a significant effect of parameters such as beam power diameter, length of defocusing and surface absorptivity value on the heating rate, temperature distribution and heat effected zone.
