Abstract

The subject of this study is the American adolescent, more particularly, the attitudes of adolescents towards dating and related factors. The general theoretical framework in which this study is cast is the concept o f the "youth culture" as formulated by Talcott Parsons. Parsons explains this concept In two main articles: "Age and Sex in the Social Structure of the United States," (1942); and, "Psychoanalysis and the Social Structure," (1950).
