Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the levels of total serum cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, TC/HDL-C ratio, and body weight at the beginning and the end of a 12-week cardiac rehabilitation phase II program, using circuit training as the form of exercise. The sample for this descriptive-predictive study consisted of 20 male participants of a cardiac rehabilitation phase II program, who voluntarily agreed to have a blood sample drawn after 12 hours of fasting at the beginning and end of the program. Paired t-tests were used to test the hypothesis at the .05 level of significance. The results of the study indicated that participation in the 12-week cardiac rehabilitation phase II program significantly increased HDL-C levels (£=.003), and decreased TC/HDL-C ratios (£=.016) of male participants, but does not significantly alter total cholesterol, LDL-C, or body weight of male participants.
