Abstract

In order to improve the understanding of the structure-property relationship of ladder structures responsible for nonlinear optical properties, a number of ladder oligomers, which are related to PTL, substituted with different substituents in positions 3 and/or 10 have been synthesized. Two different condensation approches have been utilized for the synthesis of asymmetrical model oligomers, and it has been shown that sizable branched chain alkyl substituents considerably increase the solubility of ladder oligomers. The UV absorptions have been measured, and the UV characteristics have been discussed.
