Abstract

After an evaluation of the social studies program of the Lyons Township High School was made, there was an evident need for development of a unit on occupations for the ninth grade students. The author reviewed the literature and developed a unit which should help the individual students make decisions appropriate to their levels of vocational development and to evaluate, modify, and achieve goals based on those decisions. The six week unit developed suggests materials to be reviewed, people to be interviewed, films to be viewed, and tests to be administered. This is planned to enable the ninth grade level student to explore his abilities and interests and leave room for substantial modifications as progress is made toward more precise decisions later.
