Abstract

Statement of the problem. The purpose of this thesis is to ascertain the size of American investments in Korea from 1882, when the first major concession was obtained, to 1939, when the last major enterprise was sold to the Japanese. This study will consist of following problems. 1. Why Korea emerged from seclusion in 1682? 2. How Korea had modernized her industry from the agrarian society? 3. What was the role of the Oriental Consolidated Mining Company?
