Abstract

Emotions are attitudes or experiences response to objective things, it constantly influences everyone and decides what kind of person we became. Xinyao Li, a young photographer who was obsessed with abstract photography, was once troubled by peculiar emotions, He is a person of few words. Since childhood, his quiet nature has created a gap in communication with others. People assume him dull and aloof, like his doors are shut to all people, some people advise him to change, yet he sees no “sickness” in himself, his aloof doesn't make him indifferent, and his silence and patience are not symbol of weakness. He just feels values in freedom and space, both for himself and to others.

He once pondered the shape of his emotions, those emotional fluctuations he accumulated silently, he feels their shape must be as gentle as water, yet with bursts of chaos, he tries to recreate his imagination in reality then he finds mo(ink)."

"Mo" has the pronunciation of "ink" in Chinese, and it also refers to silence and desert, which makes Xinyao feel that it is a perfect material for the theme. He appreciates and references the works of artists Teresa K. Morrison and Chen Shijun, and begins to use ink and water to create this series of photographs. The posture of ink in water perfectly matches the imagination of emotions in Xinyao's mind. Its lines seem to be restraining something, while also giving an inexplicable sense of oppression and sadness, but still it cannot be denied that one can also see the roar and power from it, and those is what Xinyao wants to express.

“I believe there is strength in silence, burst in tranquility. one's correctness doesn't imply other must be wrong, and my indifference doesn't mean that I don't care "
